Parts Needed to Allow Demco DM72VR to Work With Disc Brakes

Question:

I have an older DA-66I believe the same as the new DM72VR. I am looking to update the trailer to disc brakes. Is it possible to change out the master cylinder for the disc brake master cylinder with reverse lockout? Or is replacing the entire actuator necessary? And is the Master Cylinder I would need DM5919 if i can go that route?

Good news! For your # DM72VR, you can replace the drum master cylinder with Replacement Master Cylinder w/ Bypass Electric Lockout for Demco Actuators - Disc Brakes Item # DM5918. It will fit in place of the master cylinder you have and it comes with an electric reverse lockout. You will also need to add the Replacement Solenoid Cover for Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator - Model DA66B - Qty 1 # DM12267-95 to protect the solenoid after installing it on this particular actuator, but that's the only additional part you would need.

In order to determine which disc brakes you can use with your trailer I would need to know the bolt pattern on your current hubs, the inner and outer bearing size or number your current hubs use, and the capacity of the axle. For example, if your current hubs have a # 25580 inner and # 15123 outer bearing, a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern and the axle capacity is 5200 to 6000-lbs, the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 12" Hub/Rotor - 6 on 5-1/2 - Dacromet - 5,200 lbs to 6,000 lbs # K2HR526D would be a good choice.
