There are several possible causes leading to the light not coming on and the brakes not working when you step on the brake pedal. First and probably most likely, is a blown stop light fuse. Consult the vehicle owners manual and/or the lid on the power distribution box for the location of the stop light fuse or CHMSL fuse to see if it is blown.

Also check the red wire leading to the brake controller. Test it with a circuit tester like # 3808 if needed. If it shows power when you step on the brake then there could be a problem inside of the controller. If it does not show power then it is either a bad connection/broken red wire or the stop light fuse as mentioned above.

If it does show power then it could just be that the level sensor is not set quite right. Accidentally bumping the controller could have knocked it out of alignment. I have included a link to the instructions so you can get it back to the correct range.

If nothing fixes the problem then there is most likely a problem inside of the controller and it will need to be replaced.
