Parts Needed to Install Brake Controller on 2007 Mercury Mountaineer
Question:
Hello, I have a 2007 mercury mountaineer premier v8. It has a 1 1/4 hitch in the frame with a flat 4 wire connector. I have a class 3 hitch that I am installing underneath the existing class 2. I need to switch to a 7 wire connector as well. Can you tell me how to know if I have the correct wireing and what I need to make this happen? I did glance under the truck and saw an extra blue or green wire not connected by the back of the 4 wire connector. I did not notice more than just that one wire though. I also have been seeing people talking about an electronic brake controller. How do I know If this is wired on my truck or if I even have it? How do I wire it if I do need it? I am setting up to pull a boat trailer.

It's possible the wiring you found behind the 4-way of your 2007 Mercury Mountaineer is for the brake controller circuit but to verify this see if you can find a connector for a brake controller under the dash of the vehicle. The part # 3035-P would normally plug into this so that you can install a brake controller like the Brake EVN # TK63VR.
From there you would just need the part # 37185 and you'd be set.
If not then you'd just need the brake controller and the # ETBC7 and you'd be set.
