Yes, the Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller, part # 90195, will work on your 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD truck.

The Tekonsha P3 brake controller is a proportional brake controller that offers the best and safest braking and reduces wear on both the towing vehicle and trailer brakes. The P3 has numerous other features that make it a good choice. It has an easy to read and understand LCD display, on board diagnostics, and can be used with either electric or electric over hydraulic brakes.

If your Silverado came with a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector at the rear of your vehicle, the only part you will need to install the Prodigy brake controller is the unit itself. Normally, the manufacturer provides a brake control adapter that connects to the brake controller and plugs into the vehicles electrical junction box on the drivers side, below the dash. I am including a link to a video that will show how the factory adapter will attach to your brake controller and install in your vehicle.

If you do not have the factory adapter, you can use the Tekonsha GM Plug-In Wiring Adapter, part # 3015-P. This adapter will plug into the brake controller and in the same location on the junction box.

I am including a link to an installation video of a Prodigy brake controller and wiring adapter being installed
on a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD.

If your truck is not equipped with a factory 7-Way trailer connector you will also need the Pollak Twist-In 7-Way Trailer Connector, part # PK11916, along with the brake controller and wiring adapter mentioned above. In this case you will also need to make some connections under the hood. I am including a link to a FAQ page that will describe the connections to be made under the hood on your Silverado that should be helpful for you.

I just purchased the P3 and the connector kit for my 2004 2500HD and it was very easy to install and works perfectly. The only issue Im running into is that its always powered on, even with key out. So, you have to disconnect the connector from the back on the brake controller, which isnt a big deal. Currently searching the internet, to see if my truck should always supply power to the controller....

The controller will remain on for a period of time. It is checking to see if a trailer is connected and watching to see if the truck is moving. It does have an automatic shut-off. Sometimes it can be between 15-30 minutes before it shuts off, but it will not drain your battery. Once it is idle for long enough the controller will shut off. You do not have to un-plug the controller every time, but there is no harm in doing so.
