Installing the Yakima Hangout 3 on a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question:
I have a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I am trying to install the Hangout three. It doesn’t seem like I will be able to use the anchor method on the top straps and the side strap hooks don’t seem to fit the slits of my car, can I use the anchor method for the side straps? Thank you

In order to install the Yakima HangOut 3 # Y02638 on your 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee you'll need to put the top and bottom straps in anchor mode (per the Yakima instructions). This is simply a matter of running the strap through the opening in the hooks and then dropping them inside the hatch as you can see in the attached photo. You'll want to place the clips inside the hatch and then close the hatch prior to linking the straps to the rack.
When it comes to the side straps you'll need to place them below the tail lights but sometimes you need to find a larger gap for the hook to fit into and then run it to the correct place. I've never heard of Yakima recommending to put the side straps in anchor mode so I don't recommend doing that.
Please note that if any of your bikes are a kid's bike or lack a horizontal top tube then you'll likely need an adapter bar # Y02531 to promote ground clearance and keep your bikes level.
