Recommended Disc Brake Conversion with Rotors Only for 7k Axles

Question:

Is there a hub that will allow a conversion of a 7k axle to slip on disc brakes? I think it would provide greater utility and minimize out-year costs to have separate hubs and discs as opposed to integrated units.

We have what you're looking for; check out the Kodiak # K2R712E which are designed to slip onto your existing hubs with 1/2" studs. These disc brakes are 13" and work with hubs that have 8 on 6-1/2" bolt patterns. There are also dacromet plated rotors available like the # K2R712DAC, which are great if you're using the trailer in an environment that sees a lot of moisture, since they'll provide superior rust resistance.

Since you'll be converting to disc brakes, if you don't already have an actuator, I recommend using the Dexter DX Series Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator for Disc Brakes - 1,600 psi # K71-651, which has the 1600-psi you'll need to pressure these new disc brakes. You'll also need a breakaway battery kit like the Tekonsha # 50-85-313, which I really like because it has a push to test feature, so you can easily verify it's in good working condition.

I've linked a video review of these parts, as well as the link to our entire selection of disc brake kits that slip on your existing hubs.
