Parts Needed to Convert 4-Way of 2014 Audi Q5 to 7-Way to Tow 2021 Sunset Park RV Sunray 109E

Question:

Thank you, two quick clarifying questions: 1. if I buy a wireless trailer brake controller (see example below) can I buy a regular 4 way to 7 way pin adaptor and then plug in the wireless brake controller? 2. Also, if I buy a camper that does not have it's own brakes can I still leave the wireless trailer brake controller module plugged in? Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 2 Axles - Proportional Item # C51180.

If your trailer does not have brakes all you would need is the part # ETBC7L as an adapter to convert the 4-way to a 7-way and run the 12 volt power circuit.

If you do have trailer brakes you would need the # ETBC7 instead of the # ETBC7L and a brake controller. This kit comes with everything needed to wire up the 7-way and install a brake controller.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Brake EVN # TK63VR. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. Plus it's a really great value as it is proportional and reliable like the more expensive controllers at a much better price.

Hi thanks but I don't have a 4 way switch or any electronic trailer connection at the moment. Isn't there a switch I can get that goes straight to 7 way instead of going to a 4 way first?

My apologies I thought you had a 4-way already. You do have to start with a 4-way as it's what provides the taillight circuits so that you can then convert to a 7-way easily with one of the kits I mentioned. For a 4-way the # 119190KIT would be a great option. I attached an install video for this kit on a similar 2014 Q5 as well.

You can plug in a Curt Echo # C51180 to a 7-way adapter but if the 12 volt circuit is not active the controller won't have power so that circuit would have to be ran. This is basically what the # ETC7L is. An adapter with the wiring needed to activate that circuit.
