5th Wheel Mounting Brackets and Rails for 2009 Ford F-350 Super Duty
Question:
I have a 2004 silverado 3500 duely with a 8 foot bed. Pulling a 2019 dutchman endurance 40 foot toy hauler i believe is 13,000 lbs. Just picked up a 2009 ford f350 super duty with single tire rather than duely. It has a 6.5 foot bed. Has a reese 16k. Has standard rail kit bolted to box with 5 bolts on each rail. 2 ea.end 1 in middle. Looks like underside mounting brackets are L brackets secured to 2 end rail bolts inside frame rails of truck and 90 degree across and turn down frame rails then bolted to frame after holes are drilled . I havnt measured truck frames on chev or ford. I have seen mounting plate kits specific to ford that bolt up to frame using existing bolts on frame. Looks to be a more secure mounting set up but 400$. Any idea if i can reuse mounting hardware from chev to ford? And if so best location for king pin center in relation to axle center on a 6.5 foot box versus the 8 foot? Does switching from duely to single wheel come into play? Thanks!

You will not be able to re-use parts of a fifth wheel kit from a Chevy to a Ford, nor would I recommend attempting it, but we do have kits that fit your single-wheel 2009 Ford F-350 Super Duty.
Like you mentioned, there are custom-fit kits, which do not require any drilling into the frame of your F-350, but these are more expensive than the universal kits. I recommend going this route, and the right fit is the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit with Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP50082-58.
You will want to use the hardware that comes with the kit with this as it secures to existing holes in your frame, which is a better set up overall. I have added a link to a video showing an install of this kit on an '09 Ford for you to check out as well.
