Can 4 Bikes Be Carried On a 2015 Subaru Forester With Class I 1-1/4 Hitch
Question:
Hi! We have a class one 1 1/4 inch hitch on our Subaru Forester installed by dealer. The car came with the front to back rails. We are trying to get 4 bikes on our car. Any suggestions? Any possibility of a 4 bike rack on the back of the car? Or do we need to do 2 on top and 2 behind? Is it possible to have a 2 bike tray carrier on a class 1 hitch? Can you please send me part suggestions for these scenarios? If we have to put 2 on the roof we need a very easy system to use. Thank you.

The maximum number of bikes that can be installed on a class I hitch is two, therefore you'd need to carry two bikes on the roof and two on the hitch. That said, I really think a much better option for you would be to just swap the 1-1/4" hitch for a 2". This option would actually still be more cost effective than the above and much more convenient for loading/unloading.
I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e98839 which offers a super easy install and the Curt 4 Bike Platform Rack part # C18087 or the Thule Hitching Post Pro Bike Rack for 4 Bikes part # TH934XTR to carry the bikes. I know replacing the hitch is not your first choice, but it really will be the best long term option for ease of use.
