I spoke with my contact at Blue Ox and he informed me that the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit, # BX3816, will fit on your 2000 Volkswagen Passat V6 as long as it has a manual transmission. If your vehicle has an automatic transmission, then you would need to use a tow dolly like the Roadmaster Tow Dolly, # RM-2050-1.

If you have a manual transmission, then you may also want to pick up the following items to complete your flat tow set up. There are five main components of flat towing and they are a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, light kit and a supplemental braking system.

For a tow bar, if you did not already have one picked out, I would recommend Blue Ox Alpha Tow Bar, # BX7380, and safety cables, # RM-643. This is a non-binding tow bar that makes hooking up and disconnecting on uneven terrain easy.

The Magnetic Towing Light Kit, # RM-2120, is the easiest light kit to use. You simply place the lights on your vehicle with the magnetic base and connect the wiring to your motor home. There is not drilling or splicing involved.

The final thing you will need is a supplemental braking system. Most states now require the use of a braking system on towed vehicles. You can check the laws of where you will be traveling to see if it is required. For a braking system, I would recommend using the Blue Ox Patriot, # BLU37TR. The Patriot is one of the easiest braking systems to set up and use. This is a proportional braking system that senses the braking intensity from your motor home and applies the same amount of braking force to the towed vehicle.

If your vehicle has an automatic transmission, then you will not need any additional items other than the Roadmaster Tow Dolly, # RM-2000-1. This tow dolly already has electric brakes, tail lights and wheel nets.
