Recommended Backup Camera and Observation System for 30 Foot Long RV

Question:

I own a 30’ RV with no window out the back. I hooked up a WiFi backup camera, and it won’t get a signal. Is this due to all the aluminum, metal and wood frame of the RV blocking and making interference? I read somewhere that semi tractor trailers use them for backing up? Is there a difference in WiFi camera models that just do not work with a lot of structural interference, and no back window? What should I buy that will work! My husband passed away he was the driver, so now it’s up to me to learn to drive this monster! Thank you Terri

We're very sorry to hear about your loss. Hopefully we can help you find something that will give you the confidence to maneuver your RV without any worries!

When it comes to your existing system, there really shouldn't be any issues with a WiFi backup camera being used on the back of your RV. This is a really common thing nowadays and in most cases these camera systems are designed to transmit up through the back of the vehicle without any issues; it honestly just might be an error with pairing the system. Without knowing what type of system that you've got, it's tough for me to say exactly what could be going on here, though.

I noticed you were looking at the Rampage # RA7710 which has a wireless signal and will transmit a video feed to your smartphone, but it's not really ideal for a permanently mounted camera system since it only has a 4 hour battery life and would need to be recharged frequently. Our most popular backup camera systems for RVs are the Furrion systems like the # FRC12TA-BL, which would be a good entry level to the Furrion line that will still provide you with one of the most reliable and easy to use systems on the market. This will mount to the rear of your RV and has a 4.3 LCD Color monitor to allow you to see everything behind you. It can be wired to turn on when only when you're backing up, and is transmits wirelessly without any worry of outside interference.

I've linked a brief review video of this system for you to have a look at, as well.
