Recommended Wire Gauge for Installing Breakaway Battery Kit
Question:
I am installing a breakaway battery kit with a Hydrastar actuater. Will 14 gauge wires suffice to go from the battery to the breakaway, and battery to ground. If so, what size fuse do you suggest?

Expert Reply:
We typically recommend going with 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 and Butt Connectors # DW05745-5 for the battery 12V power just to allow as much power to "flow" through it as possible. That's what I recommend using for the installation of your Tekonsha Breakaway Battery Kit # 20020.
You won't need to place a fuse or a circuit breaker on your trailer side of things.
