Towing Capacity and Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 Diesel

Question:

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 Quad cab SRW 5.9L 6Speed Manual with 3.73. I am purchasing a 36ft 5th wheel with a pin weight of 1880# and GVWR of 12000#. Is my truck capable of towing this legally and what slider hitch would you recommend?

I looked up the towing capacity of your 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 with the Cummins engine and it appears to have a 10,900 lb towing capacity which as long as you kept the trailer you are considering under that figure you'd be fine. This would mean keeping the trailer 1,100 lbs under it's max capacity which wouldn't be too difficult at all.

The best slider hitch solution we have would be the B and W Companion Slider part # BWRVK3400 as it's widely considered to be the best slider hitch around due to how quiet it is, how easy it is to use, and how well made it is. Also what's great is the rail kit for for it that fits your truck # BWGNRK1313 gives you a clean truck bed when not in use and also doubles as a gooseneck hitch.
