Why Does Curt Trailer Hitch Have Lower Rating Than Towing Capacity of 2006 Porsche Cayenne
Question:
I have this on a 06 Cayenne S which can tow around 7,500 pounds. However this hitch is rated at only 6,000 pounds. Why would Curt design something that is over a 1,000 pounds less than the OEM equipment? Would this be able to handle pulling 7,000 pounds for an extended period of time without issues? It seems Curt is a legitimate American company and are more worried about liability and lawsuits possibly.

Usually when a trailer hitch capacity doesn't quite match up to the limits of the vehicle it's designed to fit, it's because it's also a fit for other vehicles that have a different tow rating. I wish I had a better answer for you, but the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch # 13220 does list a 6,000 pound towing capacity and I can't recommend going over this limit.
These hitches do likely have a safety margin in place with regards to their listed ratings (which I think you alluded to), but I still can't advise towing a 7,000 pound trailer because it could certainly lead to damage and any issues wouldn't be covered under warranty.
The Curt # 13220 is the only hitch currently available for your 2006 Porsche Cayenne.
