Recommended Ways to Power Electric A-Frame Jack
Question:
Hi, Yessir, Im a newbie at travel trailering. Im learning as I go along. I have been considering an electric trailer Jack, Im 66 with a bad shoulder. Anyway, My camper is a 2005 and only has one battery and that has the breakaway connected to it. My understanding is that its a no no to connect other stuff to that battery. I know that hooking into the truck plug with make the new jack fight for power. I havent purchased anything yet. Looking for your expert advice on what to do from here. Thank you for your time,

You are on the right track so far. The breakaway battery you have now should not be how you power an a-frame jack like the Stromberg Carlson # JET-5000. The breakaway battery needs to be only used by the breakaway system as needed. Draining it with other accessories would most likely cause it to fail if ever needed.
Best option is to install a deep cycle battery on your trailer to power this jack. It draws up to 25 amps though so you could power it from the 7-way too as that circuit should be rated for 40 amps.
