Bike Carrying Options for a 2019 Audi A6

Question:

I have a 2019 Audi A6. I also own a hitch-mounted 1Up bike rack from my previous car that will work with either a 1 1/4inch or a 2inch receiver. I very much prefer the hitch-mounted racks to roof or trunk-mounted racks. Unfortunately, I have not found a manufacturer that has designed a custom fit hitch for the 2019 A6. Do you have any suggested solution? I do not need much tongue weight, obviously. And I will never use the hitch to tow anything. I would be willing to have a professional install the hitch if that is necessary. Thanks.

We do offer bike carrying options for as 2019 Audi A6, but unfortunately none of our vendors offer a trailer hitch for your vehicle at this time.

So, the remaining options are a trunk mount or a roof mounted rack, neither of which you were too thrilled about.

Between the two options, I'd be much more inclined to choose a roof mounted carrying option as the roof racks are custom designed to fit a given vehicle. Because of this, they fit tightly and won't move around possibly causing damage to the vehicle when they are installed and used according to the instructions.

In order to carry the bikes on the roof, you'll first need to install a roof rack. I'd recommend the WingBar Evo from Thule, because the aerodynamic shape of the crossbars helps to minimize the noise caused by the wind hitting the crossbars. A rack can be assembled using the following parts:

Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars, part # TH711400

Evo Clamp Feet # TH710501

Vehicle Specific Fit Kit, part # TH145202

For a bike rack, I prefer a frame mount for convenience unless the bikes in question have a carbon-fiber frame. The Thule ProRide XT, part # TH598004 allows the bike to be carried without removing the front wheel. The bike rack installs by sliding into the channels incorporated into the crossbars I recommended for a clean looking installation. The rack can be locked to the roof rack and the bike to the rack by using # TH450200 optional lock cylinders.

If your bike has a carbon-fiber frame, you'll want a rack that holds the bikes by the forks like the Thule # TH535 Curcuit rack. The Circuit can also be channel mounted, and is constructed of lightweight aluminum. The rack is compatible with 12, 15 or 20mm Thru-Axles without needing an adapter and is disc brake compatible. An included adapter is compatible with 9mm quick release front skewer. Locks mentioned above can be purchased to secure the rack to the roof rack and the bike to the rack.
