Front Mount Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2004 Toyota Tundra

Question:

Is there a hitch that will fit without drilling or cutting AND keeping the skid plate? I want to install a motorcycle carrier for a Honda CT 110. Can the ball joints handle the weight? I have heard the First Generation Tundra has weak ball joints and Im concerned. I need a hitch that fits snug up against the frame so as I can have good ground clearance. Because the 2004 Tundra is not quite a half ton pick up, can it handle the stress and weight of a 200 lbs bike?

For a front mount hitch for your 2004 Toyota Tundra, there are 2 options, see link. Both of them are going to require drilling, trimming, and/or removal of the skid plate for the hitches to fit properly.

I would go with the Draw-Tite hitch, # 65031 because it has a high vertical line pull at 500 pounds. Vertical line pull is like the tongue weight rating on a hitch that would be on the back of the vehicle. It is the amount of downward force the hitch can handle.

Though the hitch can handle 500 pounds, you will need to check the front axle capacity to determine if it can support the combined weight of the carrier and bike. You can see in the video I have linked where the receiver will be once installed.

Having something like a motorcycle in front of the vehicle is going to reduce driver visibility and reduce airflow to the radiator. A transmission cooler is recommended. The most popular options for any engine size is # D13502. I have included a link to our FAQ on transmission coolers for you.
