Compatibility of RockyMounts SplitRail 4-Bike Rack and Stealth Hitches Rack Receiver on 2018 XC90
Question:
Hi I have a 4-bike RockyMounts split rail hitch rack. Given that the 2” receiver for the stealth rack is closed in the rear, what is the maximum depth the rack can be inserted distance from locking pin hole in so that I can verify that the rack can be installed. I see the tongue weight listed, is there a bike rack weight limit for the receiver? Thanks

The Stealth Hitches Hidden Rack Receiver # SH27FR measures 3-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to rear end of the receiver and it has a standard hitch pin hole depth of 2-1/2 inches (center of the hitch pin hole to the front face of the receiver opening).
That being said, the hitch pin hole depth on your RockyMounts SplitRail LS 4 Bike Platform Rack # RKY11404 is standard as well and so you won't have any problem installing the bike rack on the # SH27FR. It also looks like the hitch pin hole is going to be pretty much flush with the edge of the bumper fascia on your 2018 Volvo XC90, which means you'll have plenty of clearance to install the rack and fold it up as well. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the bike rack is 10-1/4 inches when folded down and 6-1/2 inches when folded up.
There isn't a maximum bike rack weight limit, and while the # SH27FR has a max tongue weight of 600 lbs, you're limited to the capacity of your lowest rated component, so I suggest checking your owner's manual to confirm your XC90's maximum tongue weight capacity. Your combined tongue weight (bike racks plus bikes) should not exceed the lowest of the two numbers.
