Install Tips for Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit for 3 x 5 on 2 x 4 Trailer Tongue

Question:

Can you provide the dimensions of the bolt holes and the distance between the hole centers. I have a 2 x 4 tongue and am considering using the 3 x 5 coupler and installing 1/2 inch shims on all four sides. The question is, would the holes on the coupler be within the two inch width of my beam?

If you plan was to use the Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit for 3 x 5 trailer tongues # FHDPB350101 with shims on a narrower trailer tongue you'd actually need to weld the hinge kit as the bolt holes aren't going to match up perfectly and it would be really difficult to make the bolt holes work like needed.
