EZ-Lube Spindle for L44649 Bearing and 10-60 Grease Seal

Question:

Ive got a sailboat trailer equipped with hydraulic actuator for a 2000 lbs axle, 1-1/16inch spindles and this dexter brake drum. It is specified that part # 8-271-7UC3-EZ is compatible with ez-lube. I would love to find a compatible ez-lub spindle this is a sailboat trailer, so it is frequently submerged but in your listing, the closest model is BTR E-Z Lube Spindle for 2,000-lb Trailer Axles - 1-1/4" Diameter. The bearing kit L44649 is common to dexter brake drum and this spindle, but 1.25inch spindle is not the same as a 1-1/16 spindle ? If we have a match for my hydraulic brake drums and an ez-lube spindle, could you specify which ez-lube bearing and seal kit should be purchased. I doubt very much this is the one compatible with ez lube spindle. Bearing Kit for 1.25inch BTR Spindle, L44649 Inner/Outer Bearings, 10-60 Seal I would expect TruRyde Seals for Trailer Bearings - RG06-010 double lip grease seals to be much better with ez-lube, but I dont see any ez-lube hub cap either.

On the spindle # TRU44FR, the 1.25 inch refers to the diameter of the stub, not to any of the bearing surfaces, which might be what is confusing you.

If you currently have the # 8-271-7UC3-EZ hubs that use the L44649 inner and outer bearing, the # TRU44FR would be the compatible EZ Lube spindle. Part # BK1-150 would be the correct bearing/ seal kit that uses the double-lip seal which we recommend for the EZ-Lube spindles. For your hub bore, you would use the grease cap # DC200L-DCRP.

Instead of going to all the trouble and expense of removing your existing spindles and having a certified welder install the EZ-lube spindles, I would recommend using a set of bearing buddies, like part # BB1980A-SS. The bearing buddies will apply slight pressure that will force grease into and exclude water from your hub, serving the same function as an Ez Lube spindle. A 10-60 double-lip seal, # RG06-020 should be used with bearing buddies. Douple-lip seals use a retaining spring that does a better job of retaining grease and excluding water.

If your current spindles are damaged, and they need replacing, you might be better off simply ordering a new axle equipped with the correct spindles. Welding spindles onto an axle is a tricky process, they need to be absolutely square and concentric to the axle. It is not recommended for the amateur. We offer a small selection of axles, one of which might be suitable. If you click the provided link, you can see the axles we offer. In order to match up a replacement axle, you'll need to know the hub face to hub face distance as well as the center to center spring center dimension. I'll provide a photo showing those dimensions.
