How Does Breakaway Function Work With Wireless Brake Controller
Question:
If using wireless trailer brakes, how does this sytem handle breakaway function. Do you not have to have the capability of breaks holding for 45 min in case of a disconnection?

When using a wireless brake controller like the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 the breakaway function is still operated by the breakaway kit and not the brake controller.
A brake controller and breakaway kit are 2 separate components although they both work with the trailer brakes, just differently. The Echo brake controller is designed to apply the brakes to the trailer when the brakes are applied to the tow vehicle and help bring both to a safe stop.
Breakaway kits like the Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with Built-In Battery Charger # 20400 are designed to bring trailers to a stop by activating the electric brakes if the trailer becomes disconnected from the tow vehicle, but won't activate the brakes when connected properly,
I linked a few articles with a ton of helpful information and diagrams about brake controllers and breakaway kits. You can also check out the video I attached of installing the Hopkins Engager.
