I prefer the flexibility and affordability of a block system like the Righline Gear # RL100K10. This system will allow you to carry a canoe regardless of whether it has a roof rack with cross bars or not. All securing straps and bow and stern tie-down cables are included, but I would recommend you take a look at the Thule Hood Loops, part # TH529. The hood loops offer an easy and secure way of securing the bow and stern of the canoe. Simply shut the end of the loop in the hood or trunk, and you have a secure and easy to install and remove tie-down point. If you need more straps the etrailer tie-down kits comes with straps and similar anchors that close inside of your hood or hatch for a secure connection without damaging your vehicle.
Because this system can be used on roofs with or without racks, the system can be switched from vehicle to vehicle quickly and easily, if needed.
