Do I Need A Brake Lite Relay and Stop Light Switch To Use Roadmaster 9700 System In 2015 GMC Terrain

Question:

I have a 2015 4 cylinder GMC Terrain. I would like to use the LED bulb and socket kit part # RM-152-LED. Do I have to use the brake switch relay? When my 9700 sup. brake system activates the pedal, do the incandescent brake lights still come on?

A Brake lite switch relay part # RM-88400 is not required when using the Roadmaster Portable Supplemental Braking System - Preset part # RM-9400 on the 2015 GMC Terrain. However, a Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit - Chevrolet Equinox / GMC Terrain part # RM-751439 is required which works the same as the brake lite relay but both are not needed according to the installation instructions of the 9700 braking system. The 9700 braking system also requires an additional 12 Volt outlet kit part # RM-9332.

The Roadmaster Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - LED Bulb and Socket - Red part # RM-152-LED bypasses the vehicle wiring so it will take over the function of stop, turn and brake lights when the vehicle is being flat towed. I have attached an installation video on a 2016 GMC Terrain for your reference.

Please keep in mind when you flat tow the 2015 GMC Terrain 4 cylinder, the ABS fuse needs to be pulled. It is normally #15 or #16 but I recommend to check the owner's manual to be sure. I recommend to use the fuse bypass part # RM-76517 which will allow you to quickly pull the fuse when it's time to flat tow with the flip of switch. The ABS fuse drains the battery when flat towing.

You also need to a charge line kit for towed vehicles part # RM-156-25 to insure your battery does not drain while the vehicle is being flat towed. If your motor home does not have a charge line you will also need part # RM-156-75.
