Best Rated 5th Wheel Hitch for 2019 Ford F-250 Crew Cab V8 Turbo Diesel 4WD
Question:
Hi Carla, Thank you for the response. On the information that you provided for the recommended equipment the 5th wheel hitch says 4000 lbs TW and 16000 lbs GTW. We had established my 2019 F-250 could tow 14,100 lbs., with this equipment do the numbers increase to 4000 / 16000 lbs? Thanks

All your calculations are right on. The truth is that most people do overload their trucks, because adding more and more options to be able to achieve a higher towing capacity can get pretty costly, pretty quickly.
I took a look at the Ford Trailer Towing Guide that you mentioned. It indeed states that your 2019 F-250 Diesel, crew cab, 4x4 160 in WB and 6-3/4 ft box and 3.31 axle ratio, is limited to a gross trailer weight rating (GTWR) of 14,100 lbs. That is only as long as your fully loaded truck (with all the cargo and passengers in it) does not exceed 7,800 lbs, based on the GCWR (gross combined weight rating) listed in the same chart. Basically, your truck has a max GVWR of 10K (technically 9,900 because of the GVWR Package), but when towing a 14,100 lb 5th wheel trailer, it's reduced to 7,800 lbs since GCWR=GVWR+GTWR. Keep in mind that some F-250 models equipped with the right options, can tow a few thousand pounds more than that.
The 5th wheel hitches available for your truck start at 16K. Therefore, based on the above information, your best option is to go with the Demco Hijacker Premier Series Ultra Slide # DM6076P-UL-16K along with the Premier Series Above-Bed Base Rails and Custom Installation Kit # DM8552031-71. The Hikacker features a 3/4 inch wraparound jaw, which provides far superior jaw to king pin contact over other options. If ride quality is important to you then the Hijacker is the way to go. It has built in dampeners and the head pivots front to back as well as side to side which not only reduces chucking but also makes for an easier hookup.
To add a 7-way plug inside your bed, I recommend # 54701-007-010.
I've attached a video for you to check out at the bottom of the page.
