Is 2,000 Watt Generator Enough to Power 5th Wheel Trailer Appliances

Question:

I have a 2020 cougar 302rls, and have an older Coleman 2000 watt generator. I was wondering if that was enough to power most everything in that? Maybe not the microwave or the AC? But should still be enough to run the slides and all the lights and TV correct?

Expert Reply:

Is your generator 2,000 running watts or 2,000 starting watts? Either way, that's a pretty low amount and I would think that you would need more. I have added a couple cut outs from the linked help article on generators which shows some of the common appliance power usage as well as how to determine exactly how much power your generator will need to be.

Should you need more power, as I suspect you likely will, go with the 4,500-Watt Portable Generator - 3,600 Running Watts - Propane or Gas - Electric Start # 333-0005.
