Correct Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System for 2020 Rockwood Ultra Lite 2608BS
Question:
I will be purchasing a 2020 Rockwood Ultra Lite 2608BS Travel Trailer and I was looking to purchase my hitch prior to its purchase. The trailer has a dry weight of 6608, storage capacity of 2,188 lbs, so the GTW is 8,796 lbs. But we have had a travel trailer in the past and I would expect not to exceed 1,000 lbs of total weight added to the trailer. We have never traveled with any fluid in our tanks and we do not plan to do any boondocking. So my weighted trailer will likely be around 7,600 lbs. I had planned to purchase the EQ37100ET. The tongue weight at 12 of the GTW will be approximately 912 lbs. At 15 it would exceed the 1000 max tongue weight of this hitch. My dilemma is that my tongue weight falls potentially close to the maximum of this hitch. In order to get the best performance from the Equalizer, should I purchase the EQ37100ET or the EQ37120? What I do not know or understand is if I purchase the heavier duty hitch EQ37120ET and my tongue weight is 900 lbs, would that diminish the performance of the hitch? Would it effect the sway aspect of the hitch? Is there a downside to having too much hitch?

With a predicted loaded trailer weight of around 7,600 pounds (which would give you a loaded tongue weight like you mentioned of around 912 pounds) I highly recommend the higher-rated Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37120ET. This system has a tongue weight capacity range of 800 to 1,200 pounds, so even if you were to end up on the lower range of your estimate, it's still going to fall comfortably within the range of this system for ideal operation.
With the above information in mind, I don't think you'll have an issue falling below this system's capacity range with your total tongue weight, but it's good to note that it's still always better to go with a slighter over-rated weight distribution system than with one that's under-rated. Equal-i-zer was actually at our facility not too long ago and they made it very clear that an over-rated system (within reason) won't have any negative effects on it's performance, both with regards to sway control and weight distribution.
Having an under-rated system though is essentially like not having a system hooked up at all. You simply won't receive any benefit if your total tongue weight exceeds what the weight distribution system is designed to handle.
The Equal-i-zer # EQ37120ET is a perfect option for your setup and it includes everything you need for installation. I have attached a couple short video demonstrations below that you can also check out.
