How To Prevent Sag On 2004 Honda CR-V With Small Trailer

Question:

We recently purchased a Coachman 9foot tip-up camping trailer used 2020 Clipper Express 9.0 TD. Dry weight is 980 lbs. Most of the cargo storage is in front of the axle, yet empty the tongue weight is 150 lbs. which is max for my Honda 2004 CRV. Have a 1 1/4inch hitch with Reese sway bar. As is empty, towing is ok but it already feels like the front tires are light. Short of moving the trailer battery to the rear of trailer would be difficult and loading most gear just behind the front seats of CRV very limiting!, do you have any suggestions on improving this? Honda has struts all around, so I dont think I can put air shocks on the back. All the load-leveling hitches I could find are for 2inch hitches, very large trailers, and would only add more weight to the tongue... Thanks!

The Coil SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs part # CSS-1125R are the perfect option for a 2004 Honda CR-V. They are super easy to install (no tools required) and will do a great job of helping transfer weight from the rear to the front axle which will improve braking and stability. In regards to shifting items on the trailer to lessen the tongue weight, this is not a good option because it will in turn affect the stability and lead to sway which is possible even with an anti-sway bar.

I have attached a sample install photo for you. The Coil SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs are the only suspension enhancement option for a 2004 Honda CR-V.
