I have added a link to a help article which details how to install a brake controller on your 1996 Ford F-150, and the exact parts you need are going to depend on if you have no factory trailer connector or the factory 4-way
Here is what your 1996 F-150 will need, depending on what you have:
No Factory Connector:
- 4-Flat Trailer Connector # 118316
- Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7
Factory 4-Flat:
- Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole # 37185
If you take a look at the help article, it details where the wiring is, and what you will need to do if you have the factory 4-flat or factory 7-way. If you do not have either of those, the help article on how to install a brake controller from scratch will guide you in the process.
