Replacing Suspension On A 1995 Mallard 23P Travel Trailer
Question:
My 1995 mallard 23p is leaning to one side more than the other. I am assuming its a bad leaf spring. Could you assist with what leaf springs I would need, shackles and ahackle straps? Thanks

Before removing and potentially replacing the leaf springs, trailers sometimes lean to one side because of the way it's loaded. This uneven loading can cause the leaf spring to wear down quicker over time but could maybe be corrected by reorganizing the weight in your camper.
Given it's a 1995, it could just be time for replacement as well. Trailer leaf springs need to be selected based on the axle weight rating, as well as on the spring type (slipper or double-eye), length and width dimensions. Axles usually have a sticker or plate on them that provides their weight rating.
You can choose the spring by matching the same width, length, and axle capacity of your current setup. If you find that the measurement on your springs is 1/2 to 1 inch longer than the measurement of a spring that is the correct weight rating, this is most likely due to wear and sagging of your spring and the match would work on your trailer.
You will also need to measure the center to center dimension on your shackle straps that often wear out first in a trailer suspension system. If you need to replace the hangers measure from the center of the bolt hole to the top of the hanger to determine the correct hangers for the front and the back of the trailer.
The included video provides a great overview of the leaf spring replacement process.
With the above mentioned measurements you will be able to accurately choose the correct springs and parts for your trailer suspension.
