Underbed Fifth Wheel Rail Kit and Hitch Recommendation for 2000 GMC Sierra 2500HD Short Bed
Question:
Hi, I have a 2000 gmc sierra 2500 HD crew cab with a 6.5 foot bed and really want to have an unobstructed bed when the 5th wheel hitch is removed. Will your part fit? Also note the under the bed spare tire was removed by the previous owner and he installed an auxiliary gas tank in place of the tire. Would that interfere with the installation of the hitch? Per the vin number the owners manual says I can tow 8500 lbs. Thanks,

For your 2000 GMC Sierra 2500 short bed we have a great underbed fifth wheel hitch solution that will give you a totally unobstructed bed when not towing with the Reese Elite rail kit part # RP30061 and the Elite slider hitch part # RP30144. This only leaves 4 small pucks in the bed of your truck when the hitch is removed. See picture. The gas tank you mentioned would not be an issue either.
B and W does not have a fit for your truck at this time for their Companion hitches but the Elite hitches are widely considered to be one of the best options as well so you'll really like this setup.
