Trunk Mount Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2006 Volvo XC90 and a 2011 GMC Acadia
Question:
I have a 2006 Volvo XC90 and a GMC Acadia SUV and was wondering what Cargo Bike Rack would work best with these vehicles. Neither one has a hitch. It seems easier to ask the experts than it is to research the issue. Thank you for a quick response as I would like to purchase for wafes birthday which is 9 days from now.

I have very good news. Both the 2011 GMC Acadia and the 2006 Volvo XC90 can accept many of the same trunk mounted bike racks. I have included a link to the trunk mounts that will fit each of the vehicles for you.
If you are looking for a 3 bike rack, I recommend the Thule OutWay, # TH56BV. This is a top tier rack and I bet your wife will like the fact that it is not only light weight (under 19 pounds) but also how quickly and easily it installs.
This rack uses only 2 retractable cables, instead of the 4-6 straps like other racks, to attach to the vehicle. I have had a chance to use this rack and it is the easiest rack I have used. Another great feature is the integrated cable lock. It locks the furthest out bike to the carrier so it and the bikes behind it cannot be removed from the rack.
The next step down is the Thule Gateway Pro, # TH78VR. This bike features a strap style system to mount of a vehicle. It does feature a cable lock but not the passive theft deterrent that prevents the bike rack from being easily stolen. You'd want to add # TH533 for that.
For a good entry level bike rack, the Passage, # TH911XT, that you have referenced is good choice. This is a solid rack that will work well on either vehicle. It lacks some of the other features that the above racks have such as a cable lock and security built in. I believe your wife would be happy with any of these racks.
For carrying women's, children's, or alternative frame bikes, I recommend using the bike adapter bar, # TH982XT, for greater ground clearance and to carry the bikes more level. I have included a link to a video that shows how the adapter works.
