Does Removing Portion of Heat Shield To Install Trailer Hitch on 2016 Hyundai Sonata Harm Vehicle
Question:
The video shows a significant portion of the muffler heat shield adjacent to the fuel tank being removed. The shield appears to protect heat from the fuel tank. Is this a safety concern? It seems the hitch could have a hole allowing the side shield bolt to be secured so that very little sheet metal need be removed.

Actually, removing the heat shield when installing the Draw-Tite # 24965 receiver hitch on your 2016 Hyundai Sonata isn't a problem because the hitch itself provides more heat protection than the flimsy sheet metal that the heat shield is constructed of. Removing a portion of or even all the heat shield is a pretty common occurrence when installing a trailer hitch. I've linked the installation video for reference.
I've linked the installation video for the # 24965 for your convenience.
