Weight Capacity of Swagman RV Bumper Mount Bike Rack # S80605

Question:

From the photos of this rack, it appears that it is much too flimsy to hold two regular bikes! How much weight can this rack be expected to carry on an extended trip? The bikes that we are considering weigh approximately 45 lbs each.

The Swagman RV Bumper 2 Bike Rack you referenced, part # S80605 will carry 2 bikes weighing no more than 35 lbs apiece. This rack is a good choice for folks with lighter bikes who for one reason or another cannot install a receiver on the back of their RV.

Your best bet would be to use a receiver mounted rack, like the Swagman Dispatch, part # S44FR. The rack has a 90 lb capacity, which should accommodate your bikes nicely. The rack could be mounted to a receiver like part # UF35-946402 that would u-bolt to a 4 by 4 inch bumper. Make sure the 34 lb weight of the rack and the weight of the bicycles does not exceed the capacity of the bumper its attached to.
