Yes, the battery will need to be disconnected on a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited while being towed behind a motorhome. In order to do this each time without having to pop the hood and unbolt the hex nut from the battery terminal you can use the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect part # RM-766 which lets you disconnect and reconnect the battery with the flick of a switch from inside the cab. If you are disconnecting the battery following the procedure laid out for you in the owner's manual which I have attached for you below then you should not have any error messages. If you do then you will need to reach of to GM. I have attached some other parts you will need to complete your setup as well.

1. Position the vehicle being towed behind the tow vehicle, facing forward and on a level surface.
2. Securely attach the vehicle being towed to the tow vehicle.
3. Apply the parking brake and start the engine.
4. Shift the transfer case to N (Neutral). See “Shifting into N (Neutral)” under Four-Wheel Drive. Check that the vehicle is in N (Neutral) by shifting the transmission to R (Reverse) and then to D (Drive). There should be no movement of the vehicle while shifting.
5. Turn the engine off.
6. Disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery and secure the nut and bolt.
7. Shift the transmission to P (Park).
