The Replacement Pintle Lock # 325-GH-032 that you referenced is designed to be used with a Gen-Y adjustable ball mount like # 325-GH-504, which features multiple 2 inch receivers. The Pintle Lock slides in through the back of one of the 2" openings to create a pintle hitch for use with a lunette ring and a 2-5/16" ball.
I'm not quite sure what you are referring to with regards to what ball shaft it will accept. The Pintle Lock is not designed to accept a hitch ball shaft. I have attached a short video demonstration as well so you can see exactly how it is used.
