Solutions for Trailer Sitting Too High When Connected to PullRite 2900 5th Wheel Hitch

Question:

I have the pullrite 2900 with rail system. The problem is I have the Trail Air Road Armor pin box on my 2019 Montana 3701 and with the pullrite rail system the trailer sits to high on the truck. I have adjusted the pin box as low as I can but still not level, still too high. What are my options, can the Demco retrofit on the pullrite rail system? Or there are other options?

The PullRite SuperGlide hitches like your 2900 model are really nice systems but one of their drawbacks is the fact that they can't be adjusted in terms of height. We don't currently carry PullRite products but I believe your 2900 sits 18-1/2 inches above the rails.

Since you've already tried adjusting the pin box mounting location, and you can't adjust the hitch itself, your only other option to level out the trailer with your existing setup is to raise the trailer height. You can do this a number of ways depending on what type of axle(s) it's equipped with, but one of the more popular options is with an Over-Under Kit. This allows you to flip the leaf springs so that they sit above the axle, raising the trailer by the combined height of the axle and leaf spring stack.

If you have double-eye leaf springs you will use the Dexter Over-Under Kit # K71-384-00 for 2-3/8" diameter axles or # K71-385-00 for 3" diameter axles. If you have a different type of axle and are interested in going this route, please let me know and I will be happy to recommend an alternative method for lifting the trailer.

Otherwise your best option will indeed be to switch to the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # DM8550034. This will fit the industry-standard rails you have in the truck bed (as shown in the pictures you attached) and its adjustable settings will allow you to lower it to as short as 15-1/4 inches. I just recommend making sure this will be enough to level out the trailer when connected.

The Hijacker is an excellent hitch that will maintain the autoslide feature you no-doubt enjoy on your existing PullRite, along with provide you with an upgraded jaw design with a 3/4" thick steel locking bar that reinforces the connection and cuts down on movement/noise during travel.

I have attached a couple short video demonstrations on these products that you can check out as well.
