Best Option for Replacement 2,000 lb Axle System for 58-1/2 Inch Axle on Utility Trailer
Question:
I have a 4x8 utility trailer with a bent axle that I want to replace. The axle has a plate showing Dexter Axle P-11 Model Model SLR. It has 5 x 4.5inch hubs. I measure the spring distance at 46 3/4 inch and the outer hub-to-hub distance at 58 1/2. Would your item #20545I-ST-60-15 be the correct replacement even though it is slightly longer. Thanks

Thank you for that detailed information about your axle length, and while we do have an option for you, though the Dexter Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs # 20545I-ST-60-15 will not work for you because both the spring center to spring center and hub face to hub face dimensions are too long for your trailer. Most importantly, this means that the axle won't be able to bolt up properly, but also that if your trailer has fenders it would not cover the wheels.
What I highly recommend instead is the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System with Hubs - 5 on 4-1/2 - Regular Tires - 2,000 lbs # A20RS545 because are simply bolted or welded so you do not have to worry about finding an axle that meets any specific measurements. They also offer you an improved ride compared to a traditional through-axle because the Timbrens work independently so if there is a bump on one side of the road it won't rattle your entire trailer. The Timbren system also offers a better ride because they have progressive springs that absorb shock better than a traditional axle.
I have added a link to a video review of the Timbren system such as # A20RS545 for you to check out which I recommend taking a look at.
