Blue Ox or Roadmaster Flat Towing Setup for 2018 Honda Fit with a Manual Transmission

Question:

I went shopping for a 2019 Honda Fit with a manual transmission, intending to flat tow it behind a motorhome. As part of my due diligence I downloaded Jon Gs excellent recommendations. Problem is, 2019 Fits with stick shifts are nearly impossible to find, nor could I special-order one, since production of the 2019s had ended. The 2020 model wont be out until December or January, and its far from clear if it will even be sold in the US. Fortunately I was able to find a very low-mileage 2018 Fit, and once again sought Jon Gs advice. Since the 18 and 19 models are almost identical, I was a little surprised that Jon G recommended a Roadmaster baseplate/towbar combo for the 19 model, but he picked Blue Ox for the 18. How come? Is there much of a difference? And is he sticking with his recommendations for the 18?

Blue Ox and Roadmaster both make really nice flat towing equipment overall. You can't really go wrong with either setup so it's easy to maybe pick a favorite one day and then a different the next. That said, I personally like the Blue Ox tow bar base plate connection better than the Roadmaster as when I've used both I found the Blue Ox just a little bit easier to use.

I recommend going with the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX2266 as well as the Blue Ox Alpha Tow Bar # BX7420. The base plate kit is custom for your Honda Fit and the Alpha tow bar is rated at 6,500 lbs (more than enough to tow the vehicle) and comes with safety cables.

Then for wiring you'd want the Flexco-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 and # RM-156-25, fuse bypass # RM76512, braking system SMI DUO part # SM99251 and brake light relay # RM-88400.
