Bypassing Trailer Brake Controller Wiring on Vehicle That Seemingly has Short
Question:
I bought this brake controller a while back and it worked for a bit now I have no power to the trailer brake pin on my trucks connector. There is output to the blue wire from the controller and past where it plugs into my trucks harness but then I lose sight of it and can’t follow the wire for a while and as soon as I can pick it back up there is no power. I assume there is a ground somewhere or a broken wire in the cab. What I’m wondering is can I just cut the blue output wire several inches away from the controller and just run a wire right back to the trailer plug at the back of the truck and splice it back in? If so, should i put a fuse inline somewhere? Truck is a 2014 F-150. Thank you

Sounds like you have pinpointed where the wiring issue is based on what you've tested. Your solution of bypassing the bad section with new wiring is a great option. This eliminates all guesswork of finding the problem. You'd want to run a length of 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 (sold by foot) to bypass the section and you'd be set. There'd be no need to install a breaker or fuse either.
