Will Saris Bones 2 Bike Rack Fit 2012 Ford Focus Hatchback with Spoiler

Question:

I have a 2012 Ford Focus Hatchback and although fit guides say this rack will fit my car I have been told that it would not be suitable as the spoiler is plastic and it would break the spoiler?? This is a bit confusing as all sites say it is compatible with my car could you clarify whether this rack will fit my car as I need advice from a company that has experience of fitting this rack to my cars make and model?

The Saris Bones 2 Bike Carrier # SA805BL that you referenced is confirmed to fit your 2012 Ford Focus 5 Door Hatchback. I verified this with Saris.

I absolutely understand your concern and hesitance when it comes to the rear spoiler on your vehicle, as I have one on mine and have had trouble finding a trunk rack that works well with it. The Saris Bones though features an arched design that was specifically made to accommodate spoilers, taking the stress off of them when bikes are loaded onto the rack. With all the straps in place and the base mounted to the rear hatch and bumper, you won't need to worry about the carrier or your loaded bikes causing any damage to the spoiler.

I have attached an image I was able to get from Saris of this rack installed on your vehicle. In the picture you can see how the rack's arm design keeps the straps somewhat parallel to the spoiler instead of pulling down on to it.

With this and any rack that doesn't include them I also recommend adding some locks to help protect your investments. A standard cable lock like the Saris # SA981 will secure the bikes to the rack and the Thule Passive Security Strap # TH533 will secure it to your Focus.

If you have any children's, women's, or alternative frame bikes you might also need an adapter bar like the Kuat # UB01. This simply creates a horizontal attachment point for level transport and improved ground clearance. I have attached a short video demonstration on the adapter bar just so you can see how it's used and why it might be needed.
