Recommended Roof Rack to Support Two 28 Wide Kayaks on 2019 Ford Expedition
Question:
Just purchased a 2019 Ford Expedition XLT SUV, with factory roof rack and crossbars. We have two Perception Sound, 9.5foot sit-in kayaks, each weighing 38 lbs. and each 28 inches wide. We want to carry them upside down, side by side. on our rooftop. We also want to place them directly on the new crossbars, even if we have to take the factory crossbars off. I think I may have selected a crossbar than is too short. Do you have an extended length crossbar that will handle the weight of our two kayaks placed upside down, side by side? Thanks so much for a speedy reply!

Since the factory crossbars on your 2019 Ford Expedition are flush with the side rails they likely don't have the needed length to support both your 28 inch wide kayaks side-by-side, although you may want to take a quick measurement to be sure.
For both kayaks you will need bars that measure at least 56 inches long. To replace the factory bars I recommend the Yakima JetStream System that consists of # Y00426 for the two 60 inch long JetStream Crossbars and # Y33TR for the TimberLine Towers that will mount to the raised side rails on your Expedition's roof.
These crossbars feature a 165 pound weight capacity, plenty for your kayaks, and have a nice aerodynamic design to cut down on wind noise during travel. I have attached a short video review that you can check out as well.
Since you are wanting to place the kayaks directly on the bars you might consider at least using some pads like the Yakima # Y07413 (which measure 30 inches long) to help protect them from any scratches or scuffs while on the road. I have included a video demonstration so you can see exactly how they work.
