Length added to Trailer Tongue When Demco # DM15000-52 or DM12563 Coupler is Installed

Question:

I only have 7” from the end of my cut 3” tongue tube to the inside of the garage door with my trailer pushed all the way in. What is the distance from the front end lip of these couplers to where the 3” tongue tube begins? Also what is the distance from that point to the back of the coupler? I have 11” before I hit the spare tire bracket weld. This is for a 27’ uncovered snowmobile trailer that is used in a wet environment with road salt sprayed on it from salt covered roads. We haul 6 800lb sleds on it. Which coupler is best to fit my dimensions and use?

The two couplers you referenced are identical size-wise. The # DM15000-52 is a bolt-on application with the EZ latch system and a silver finish. The DM12563 uses a standard latch, is a weld-on application and has a red finish.

For the # DM15000-52, the easiest way to locate how far forward the coupler would extend would be to measure forward from the front most mounting hole 7.09 inches. The distance forward from the point where the coupler narrows will depend on how far from tolerance your trailer tongue tubing size is. Depending on the tubing, there will be an approximate range of 5.974 to 6.059 inches as shown in the photo I've edited for you.

I've added links to the product description videos for both couplers you mentioned.
