Brakes Coming On Automatically With Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller
Question:
Hello, I purchased a Tekonsha Voyager and it was working fine. Recently when I apply the brakes on my vehicle while towing my trailer and then release the brakes the Tekonsha brake controller stays engaged....the red light stays on and you can feel the drag of the trailer. If I pump the brakes on my vehicle then the brakes on the controller release....red light goes green and no drag. Other times I release my brakes, the light on controller goes green and then all by itself the brakes go......the green light goes red. Is this a faulty brake controller? Wiring? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you for purchasing the Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller # 39510 from us! In regards to the issue you are having, it does not sound like a wiring issue, it sounds potentially like a settings or leveling issue. This brake controller does need to be completely horizontal and needs to be mounted on a plane from between -20 to 70 degrees, an example of which you can see in the linked installation manual. Not having it leveled correctly means the sensor will be off and can cause the reaction with the brakes you are having, particularly when you pump the brakes.
I have added a link to a help article on brake controller troubleshooting for you to check out as well which I highly recommend reading.
