Yes, when hardwiring a Prodigy P3 brake controller part # 90195 you need to run the white wire to the negative terminal of your battery for best and most reliable performance. Running it to a chassis ground would probably work too but to be on the safest side running it to the battery would be best.

The black wire goes to the positive terminal of the battery, the red to the stoplight circuit switch, and the blue back to the 7-way. I attached a help article on hardwiring brake controller installs for you to check out as well.
