Question:
I bumped the brake with my knee and it says n c now. What does that mean and how do I reset it?

When you say you bumped the brake with your knee, I believe you are saying you bumped the brake controller part # 90885 with your knee. If that is the case then the N.C. display means the wiring is loose in the back of the brake controller. You want to make sure the connections are properly seated and have a nice snug connection. If you are using a brake controller adapter because your vehicle has a factory towing package, then make sure that adapter has a good connection with the factory tow wiring harness. If the brake controller is hardwired check that the blue wire in particular isn't loose because N.C normally means there is a short in the brake output circuit.
If you bumped the brake pedal and the brake controller is hardwired you want to make sure the red wire still has a good connection to the cold side of the brake switch. It could also be a coincidence that you bumped the controller and it says N.C now so if you are not able to fix the issue with the things I've mentioned, check the trailer connector for any corrosion or dirt on the pins. The most common reason for the N.C message is the trailer connector on the vehicle does not have a good connection with the trailer side connector. If you do have rust on the pins you can sand it off with a fine grit sandpaper.
