Why Trailer Brakes Work in Reverse But Not Forward  

Question:

I have a 2018 diamond the 32 ft dual tandem gooseneck with dexter axles and drum brakes. I go through magnets like crazy. I just replaced all 4 magnets and seals now my brakes work good in reverse but barely work in drive. Ive tried everything I can think of butter cant figure out whats going on. Can u please help

It's possible the left and right side brake assemblies were installed on the opposing/incorrect side they are intended for. While this would not change how the magnets power up it can negatively affect braking. If that's not the case, you may just need to adjust them.

To determine if it's correctly installed or not, the magnet actuator arm should point towards the front of the trailer. I have attached a pictured example.

New brakes will also need to be adjusted out to where you can hear a slight but constant dragging of the pads on the inside of the drum when the wheel is turned. This Brake Adjustment Spoon # W80630 will help in this area and I've included this video as well.
