Bike Rack Recommendation for E-Bike With Fenders

Question:

Kyle, thank you for this, I would have never found it! I only have one more problem: I cannot pick up my 60# bike. Do you have one of those rails you can glide it with? I might be able to pick up the front part and put it in then the back, don’t know, can’t tell by the pictures. Thanks for any advice

We have bike racks that will be perfect for your e-bike with fenders, though you are correct that the Kuat NV 2.0 # BA12B will not work with your e-bike that has fenders as it would smash them, like you said. The reason for that is the NV 2.0 is a wheel-mount bike rack, which means it uses hooks that grasp your bikes by the wheels (where the fenders are) instead of the frame. What you will need instead is a frame-mounted bike rack.

I strongly recommend the Saris Freedom 2-Bike Platform Rack # SA4412B because at 22-1/2 lbs it is extremely lightweight and easy to handle but still has a 60 lb per bike capacity which makes it great for e-bikes. It also has cradles along the masts which grasp your bike by the down tubes or top tubes so there will be no contact with your fenders, saving them from being smashed.

This bike rack also has a lever that you only need to push to fold the rack up or tilt it down, which is a quality-of-life feature that makes it really easy to use. It comes with the aforementioned anti-rattle hitch pin, but you can use the Hitch Tite Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock # SA3022 to lock the rack to your hitch and the Saris Cable Lock # SA981 to lock your bikes to the rack.

I have added links to video reviews of the Saris Freedom EX # SA4412B for you to check out as well.

Happy to help and we do have one solution for you, though there isn't a ramp that can be used with the Saris Freedom # SA4412B, and there is only one frame-mounted bike rack (which you need because you have fenders) that has a ramp, the Thule EasyFold XT 2 E-Bike Platform Rack # TH903202. While the price of the EasyFold XT is nothing to scoff at, this bike rack is the only solution for a rack that has a ramp, but it is also by far the simplest bike rack in the industry to to use because it offers a plethora of convenience features that is going to make it much, much easier to get where you need to be when you want to go for a bike ride. It comes with an integrated aluminum ramp so you can easily load your heavy e-bike; it also uses padded clamps to secure your bike along the frame, which is why it is the choice for many people who have bikes with fenders. The EasyFold XT, which has a 65 lb per bike weight capacity and allows you easy access to your rear cargo area via a foot lever that you can press to tilt the rack down. Securing it in your hitch is simple as well, as it tightens in the hitch with the twist of a knob, and the aforementioned padded clamps use knobs that click when they are securely around your bike's frame so you'll know your bike is secure to the rack. This bike rack allows you to protect your investments in your bike and the rack with integrated locks in the clamps that will secure your bike and a lock in the knob that secures the rack to your hitch. The EasyFold XT # TH903202, true to its name, completely folds up and has wheels and a handle so once you remove it from your vehicle it is simple to store. I have added links to a couple of video reviews of this rack for you to check out as well.
