Is a Specific Type of Battery Required for Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Winch
Question:
I purchased a Dutton-Lainson TW4000 winch from you to install on my boat trailer and would like to wire it to a stand-alone battery mounted on the trailer. Could you recommend a minimum battery I could use because of the 40 amp draw of the winch? Do I need a minimum of a 40 AH battery or something else?

Expert Reply:
The type of battery you are looking for to use with the Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Trailer Winch # TW4015 is just going to be a 12 volt battery rated for a minimum of 40 amps, and this is going to be a standard vehicle battery.
There are so many different types of batteries now at wildly different prices that it is easy to get lost but you only need a basic battery. For this winch there is not any type of specific battery required so long as it meets those requirements. The only thing I strongly recommend is the TorkLift PowerArmor Solar Single Locking Battery Box # TLA7720RS to keep your battery both safe and charged.
I have added a link to a video review for you to check out of this box.
