Troubleshooting Leveling Sensor on Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller
Question:
I have the four wires hooked up, have power to the controller. But it doesnt go from green to orange/red when I try leveling the sensor. Does the hot purple wire on the light plug need to be hooked up? Or what am I doing wrong?

It sounds like you have the Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller # 39510, which goes through the light sequence you described when leveling the sensor.
When leveling the sensor you first want to make sure that both the tow vehicle and trailer are parked on level ground and that the trailer is connected. If you aren't even getting a green light when the trailer is hooked up then there are a couple of things you can check.
Make sure both the tow vehicle and trailer side 7-Way connectors are free of any debris or corrosion around the pins that might be preventing a solid connection, cleaning out as needed. Also make sure the blue brake output wire from the Voyager is ran from the controller back to the 7-Way.
Then once you get that green light set the power knob on the Voyager to maximum by rotating it fully clockwise. Then step on the brake pedal and hold. Rotate the Level Knob counter-clockwise until the light starts to change colors, from green to red like you mentioned. Then rotate the Level Knob clockwise until you see a shade of orange on the light.
If you get the green light but can't get it to change colors when stepping on the brake pedal then the issue is likely with the red wire connection from the brake controller. Make sure the red wire is connected to the cold side of the brake light switch behind the brake pedal in the vehicle. This is the wire that ONLY gets power with the brake pedal depressed and no power with any other function.
I recommend using a circuit tester like # PTW2979 to ensure you have found the correct wire on the vehicle.
If you continue to have trouble please let me know and I will be happy to look into this further.
