New Hardware for Cargo Box That Does Not Fit Current Crossbars

Question:

I have a Thule alpine roof box that is too short for the cross rails I have now. What replacement hardware can I use?

It would be great if we had a way to guarantee you can essentially elongate your Thule Alpine rooftop box but there is no replacement hardware which is designed for that purpose and I would not be able to confirm hardware that can. If you are willing to drill new holes at whichever points will allow you to mount the box I recommend going with simple U-bolts, the Replacement Mounting Hardware for Car Top Cargo Roof Cargo Box # CTC-18PARTS which is just U-bolts, plates and hand knobs. You will definitely want to use the Loctite RTV 598 High-Performance Silicone Gasket Maker # LT37467 as sealant for the other holes in your rooftop box.

The best option is truly going to be a new cargo box because it will be more secure to your crossbars and easier to attach, detach and use. You can get a very nice rooftop cargo box for a less-than-premium price (relative to cargo boxes) with the Malone Profile18B Rooftop Cargo Box # MPG911 (Black) or # MPG910 (Silver) which holds a large amount of gear at 18 cubic feet, and has a 165 lb weight capacity while weighing less than 35 lbs. The Malone box will fit crossbars that have a spread between 24" and 36" so it is likely to work for your bar spread.

I have added a link to a video review of this cargo box fory ou to check out as well.
